Funny you said that. I see the similarities but my main inspiration was actually a much less known, but still incredible book called Sixteen Ways to Defend a Walled City.
This story reminds me of some military outposts in the middle east I was deployed to years ago. The detail here brought a lot of memories back. Good story.
